Awkward yet?!

Stunnning (stn)
tr.v. stunned, stun·ning, stuns
1. To daze or render senseless, by or as if by a blow.
2. To overwhelm or daze with a loud noise.
3. To stupefy, as with the emotional impact of an experience; astound. See Synonyms at daze.

It didn't make much sense to me how this simple word would make such an impact. As used in the english vocabulary, to say that a certain person or object is stunning, is considered to be a compliment. I often use this compliment when I see something exceptional as it is part of my "word well". But since when is stunning considered to be "inappropriate"? In the course of my life, I've used many a deeper words to describe certain objects and people. But never before have seen such disgust to a word that is directed at describing something magnificent. It left me stupefied. It insulted my knowledge as to what to and not to say. In fact, If that was such an inappropriate statement then I dont know what to say anymore. I know I haven't been checking what I should say, but over-reacting to something as mundane as the given word gets me irate. I guess the long and the short of it is, somebody freaked out when I said they were stunning and it befuddles me to learn that they've been avoiding me since the incident. Care to explain why? Cause you're not making any sense.

Just wave

Last week was music appreciation week. I got a whole bunch of songs from the past that I never have thought of listening to before. This time, the genre I focused on "New wave". New wave was popular during the late 1970's into the rest of the 80's. I'm particularly drawn to the synthesized drumbeat that was prominent during the time. I was talking to our music teacher about those synth drums a couple of weeks back, and figured: "We should bring the synth drums back!". Forget acoustic drums! Get that perfect pitch everytime with those cool looking hexagon drum sets! Anyway, I fine example of New wave is what you're listening to right now. For extensive listening, I suggest you get:

The Human League - Together in electric dreams

Aztec camera - Somewhere in my heart

Devo - Whip it

Dexy's midnight runners - Come on Eileen

When in rome - The Promise

The last time I wear green pants...ever!

Has it been three years already? I feel like it was only yesterday when I first wore these freakishly tacky pants. I know that it's so cliche'd to say that but it's true. School's about to wind down for the summer and Im trading in these green pants for black ones so figured I'd write something about it. Honestly, I think they're a f*ckin' waste of thread. They don't go good with anything. And well, if you try to wear these outside for anything else other than school..you're gonna look real funny. But the fact that it is what it is is what I love about it. It's not often you see me wearing anything as crappy as these. But I hate to say they told me so. It's funny how it makes me look like maintainance when I wear tennis shoes with them. A man once approached me in a supermarket asking how much a can of soup was thinking I was a store clerk. He said his apologies but I did manage to tell him how much it was. ah...my green pants, I hope you know Mr. Shredder cause you'll see him really really soon!

What happened to the music?

You know, I get this alot from my brother lately. He's been telling me how the guitar is slowly being obsolete. I was obviously pissed at him saying that. But it brought about an interesting question: What happened to all the virtuousity? I tried to whip out classic rock songs from the 60's, 70's and 80's to try to listen to the music we now lost. I went from Led Zeppelin to Whitesnake to Guns n' Roses anything I could find. Turns out he was right, we did lose something: The ability to make good material. Im not the type of person who rants out on other genres really. I find that the art is not lost just because it is expresssed in another form. Take Emo for example. Personally, I think it's just grown men crying their eyes out to the beat of a song and I dont like it. But I still think it would make good music because I still think that the passion that went through it was immense...you just feel it. But I also couldn't help but notice that the way it sounds just isn't the same anymore. The riffs arent as melodic, the guitar sounds too grunged up, the drum doesnt sound as good. I guess what Im trying to get at is that we dont write as good anymore. Forgive me if I go a bit off topic here but I'll get to my point in a little while. I love the 80's. I was born there but never really got to live in it. When people talk about the 80's, all they remember are Glam rock and New wave. All they ever remember are people in spandex with their hair permed. But I cant help but noticing how much the songs made at the time were made like it was aiming to be ahead of it's time. Ridiculous as it may sound to people like us today, but to me the drums sounded good. No, it wasn't perfect..it just sounded like it. And to think that at this time people like Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani just came out of the woodwork and started playing these killer guitar licks. It seemed that for the rest of that decade, the music just seemed to sound more electronic. I know I dont like electronica, but it's value to music seemed to have such great potential elsewhere. Then came the 90's. Grunge suddenly became popular and the once virtuous players of the 80's would take a backseat...permanently. You see, in my opinion we got stuck in this rut because of the 90's. The 90's didn't represent much change if not, it was back to basics. The guitars just got grungier, the bass didn't do much and the drums...well...were drums. Which brings me back to the modern day. Our songs weren't as depressed as the 90's. It actually got more melodic. But the need to change isn't there anymore. We have, in time, lost the need for dynamics.
